Every day, it seems, Jean Grey grows more powerful. With Charles Xavier’s help she keeps her power in check, but even so it is a daily struggle. She welcomes the inevitable battles against super criminals like Magneto, for they offer her a chance to release the vast power that builds up inside her. She hopes to learn the limits of her powers, and with that knowledge control them, but for now she feels it move inside her constantly, like a living thing.

In a world twisted by the mutant magic of the Scarlet Witch every one of Peter Parker’s wishes has come true. Spider-Man is one of the biggest celebrities in the world. The friends and family he lost over the years have been restored to him. His life is free of all the tragedy to which he has become accustomed, except for this one: it is all a lie. Shiro Yoshida has fought on almost every conceivable side in humanity’s ongoing struggle to integrate mutant-kind. He has battled for and agianst the X-Men often enough that his loyalties are always in question. The one thing he has remained devoted to over the years is his homeland of Japan. Whatever else his motivations may be, Yoshida can be trusted always to act in the best interests of Japan.

Originally created by Ultron to destroy the Avengers, Vision became more than his monstrous creator could ever hope to be. He broke away from his programming, motivated by an innate desire to do right by those he had been built to battle. His phenomenal intellegence and phasing powers made him invaluable to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. He served loyally for many years, finding friendship and eventually love on the team.

As a boy, James Proudstar idolized his older brother – the X-Man known as Thunderbird. When his brother was killed, Proudstar swore to follow in his footsteps, and took on the mantle of hero. His relationship with the X-Men has been uneasy at times, but over the years he has come to terms with his brother’s death, and become an invaluable member of the team.

Wolverine began his career as a soldier for the most secretive black operations team on Earth. Years of struggle pulled him out of that world, bringing him first to Alpha Flight, and then to the X-Men. Under the tutelage of Charles Xavier, he came into his own. He moved away from the soldier of fortune he had been, and became a true hero and champion of the mutant species.
