Today’s featured action figure from Hasbro’s The Return of Marvel Legends Wave One is Steve Rogers. This version of Captain America represents when he took over as Commander of National Security during the events in Marvel Comics Heroic Age storyline. I am pretty sure the body is based on the Nick Fury/S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent used in the two-packs, but it looks to me like the upper torso is a new sculpt. At almost 6 ¾-inches this is a pretty big Captain America. I believe the lower legs are also all new and that is where he is getting some of his extra height from. I really like the head sculpt on this Cap. He looks stern with the wrinkled brow and the raised eyebrow. They even gave him a cleft chin. The paint on the chest emblem and the legs look very nice on my figure, but I have a big smudge on the stripe on the left shoulder. The straps around the shoulders and the belt are all new as well. The shoulder straps are glued on but the belt is lose. I really like this figure, I just think he’s a little too tall.
Steve has a ball-joint head which can look up and down very well. It really has a nice range of motion. Ball-joint shoulders, double pinned elbows and a fore arm cut. I think that a standard swivel hinged wrist would have been really nice to have on a gun-toting character like this. Both hands are sculpted to hold the guns complete with trigger finger. The open-fingered gloves are also really nicely done. He has an ab-crunch, cut waist, ball-joint hips, double pinned knees and swivel hinged feet that are restricted by the boot armor.
The accessories that come with Steve are his trademark shield and two guns. The shield is painted with a metallic silver for the stripe and star where we would normally see white. The blue around the star is also a metallic paint. The shield has a dual action hinge with a clip you can use to attach it to his forearm and a peg to put it in the hole on his back. They also put some detail into the back of the shield with bands and rivets. The guns are new and the sculpting is very well done. The Terrax Build-a-Figure part that comes with Steve is the lower torso and a softer plastic overlay for the belt/loin cloth section.
This figure has a variant which has a transparent shield and all the darker brown parts on the regular figure are a lighter brown on the variant. The transparent shield is very cool! I will probably display the variant when I reset my shelves after I dust my collection this next time.
Enchanted Toy Chest is sold out of Wave One, but you still have time to pre-order Wave Two from them here.
